When I was younger, I lived in this small flat house with my small family and other warm neighbors. Back then Internet way was too hip for humble people like us. Computers too, were very rare. When you live too close, rumors spread easily and there was this one time when suddenly everyone was talking about this family, who had finally owned one! The first among us to own something big - a computer! The family had a son who was two years older than me. They lived just above our floor. He was my first friend. I insisted my father so much to take a look on his computer. Soon enough, I found myself enjoying playing around with the Microsoft stuff like Word, Paint, etc. Sometimes he got pissed off of me to have me at his house playing the same thing every time. He'd say "eh cepat lah, aku pun nak main jugak"
There was a lack in source of entertainment when I was small. Hence, our only form of entertainment besides the television is to watch DVDs! I still remember this Indian video shop across the street, located in between of the other shop houses in our residential area. The shop was small, they actually had the shop lot divided into two, one of them was this Indian video shop I'm talking about, and the other was a barbershop, owned by an Indian uncle too. Those days were days when CDs and DVDs were one of the most cool things, and I was fortunate that my family had this DVD player even though we never did have any computers until I was around 12. Astro kinda came along with the computer too, as far I could remember.
This very particular Indian uncle in the video shop was the one who had changed my life. My parents worked hard when we were small, and always came back home at almost dawn. This one very evening was one of my childhood days I will never forget - the day Ayah bought an original CD of the first Harry Potter! I did ask, "mana ayah dapat ni?". He said in a very common tone of his, "alah dekat kedai CD depan tu, Uncle tu kata cite ni best, kasi anak tgk, ayah pun beli lah"
Original weh. I was too naive, I guess, back then. I didn't feel anything yet by then. Until ayah said, "jom kita tengok"
I miss those days when you have zero homework that you can watch any movie at any night with your family without having thoughts like 'alamak homework tak siap lagi' in your mind. But I can recall that this time, it was my turn to share something with my friend. We watched it for dozen times.
I should say, Harry Potter was one of my favorite childhood movies apart from Cinderella, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White,Toy Story, Bug's Life etc. I have a confession. I cried when Ron fell down from the enormous Knight when they were playing the Wizard Chess before Harry entered this room to meet Professor Squirel. And I must admit, Ron was my second movie crush after Peter Pan.
But it'd be a lie if I said, "I feel very melancholic that now Harry Potter has ended, I actually grew up watching him!"
I didn't grow up watching him. Other things always happen that sometimes you forget the important things. And I began to forget Harry Potter as I grew bigger, until this one day when I watched the sixth Harry Potter at HBO, during the Harry Potter marathon, a few months/weeks before the the seventh (part 1) Harry Potter was released in cinemas. I felt, rugi gila time kecik aku tak tengok yang kedua, ketiga, keempat, kelima & keenam.
Luckily my best friend Azalea, has the complete set of HP movies DVDs, and she was the one who, I should say, helped me a lot to catch up things back. I also quizzed Ammera & Thanuja frequently, because they read the book, maybe not all, but they know better than me, until now I believe. Recently I have just finished reading the first and the second book, and I'm planning to read the rest of them after taking SPM. With non-stop help from my friends, I think now I get the full picture of Harry's adventures with his friends.
This is, the story of my Harry Potter journey. I'd like to express my gratitude to everyone who had helped me to get through this journey. Starting from the Indian uncle, to ayah himself, Azalea, my best mates, mak who was the one who actually asked ayah to bring us to the theater, and not to forget, my baby sister Aini who was willing to spend the long school holidays watching Azalea's DVDs with me. And everyone who shared the same interest and love towards Harry Potter with me. Thank you.
Yesterday when I watch the very last film with my family, ayah blurted, "Tembak je botak tu. Biar mati". And, everyone was looking up. LOL
He had absolutely no idea about the horcruxes, don't blame him, the 1st movie was years ago.
