Things Every Sixteen-year-old-girl Should Know

(Based on Nur Hajar Ahmad Yusof’s experiences as a normal teenage girl who celebrated her birthday 4 days ago)

Family

1. Don’t ever argue with your mom. She always knew what’s best for you
2. Don’t quarrel with your sisters/brothers. You’re freaking sixteen, act like one
3. Don’t rebel - especially when your parents are still stuck in the conservative era, because you know you will always lose somehow.
4. Don’t answer back to your parents - you’ll get a plenty of bash and some more, you know it’s actually rude.
5. When it comes to clothes, dresses, shirts or jeans, just don’t buy the same kind as your sister’s. You don’t want to look like a kid.
6. Weekends are for family – what, you spend like 5 days in a week with your friends, so why not spare the whole weekends for your family?
7. Salam and smile to your mak ciks and pak ciks and relatives whenever it’s Raya or family gathering. Be as friendly as you can and keep your smile original.
8. Your granddad is supposed to be the wisest man you know.
9. Your siblings love you – they just don’t want to admit it. Come on, like are you going to admit that you love your sisters? Not a chance.
10. Love your family like there's no tomorrow.
    

Friends

1. A best friend knows everything about you. And she won’t say that she dislikes Justin Bieber, because she knows you love him!
2. Best friends will plan a birthday party for you, at least once in your lifetime. And you’ll never suspect anything that they’re secretly planning something (this actually includes your mom).
3. When you break up with your boyfriend, you MUST tell EVERYTHING to your best friend, and the very next day, you’ll discover your ex-boyfriend is no longer in your best friend’s friend list in Facebook.
4. When she says ‘you are okay in that outfit,’ it means that you look totally great. But if she says ‘there is something wrong with that shirt,’ that totally indicates that you look horrible.
5. There is no such thing as ‘The Three Best Friends’. There will only be ‘The Two Best Friends’ or ‘The Four Best Friends’ or ‘The Five Best Friends’. All of us know that we HATE third parties. If your gang consists of 3 persons, trust me, one will be left out.
6. When your best friends say ‘eww that guy sucks’ it means, YEAH HE IS SUCK. And if you just go on loving the dude, in 2 months time he’ll break your heart and you will officially be a big loser.
7. Every best friend loves you more than a guy could love you.
8. If you’re like really close to your best friends, somehow you’ll end up planning to enter the same university/college after finishing high school.
9. True friends cry together. True friends bash your stupid ex-bf. True friends support you in every way. And true friends are forever – you’ll know this once you find them.

Okay, I am not that expert in relationships – I mean; I have only a few of EXs. But well, one thing I am certain of is when a guy isn’t interested with you; he WILL show that he’s not into you. He won’t reply your texts, he won’t answer your call, and he won’t nudge you whenever both of you are online and he’ll show NO interest towards you at all. But, if he DOES like you, HE’LL MAKE IT UP FOR YOU.

I somehow feel warm to share this stuff with you guys, at least I’m teaching you something. And if you’re reading this and coincidentally you’re fifteen, just don’t depend on Taylor Swift’s song – Fifteen that much. We’re living in a tougher world than she was.
